Translate a site
What LocalePro does once the plugin is installed and DeepL or Google is connected.
You keep writing in the language you already use. Visitors read the site in theirs. There is no second set of pages to publish, and no translation desk to run. LocalePro translates the page WordPress already built.
Before you start
- The plugin is installed.
- Your LocalePro key is saved, so you get updates.
- A DeepL or Google key is saved under Settings → Connectors.
- At least one language is turned on under LocalePro → Settings → Languages.
The first time a page is read
The first visitor to read a page in a new language waits on your translation service. LocalePro looks at the page, skips anything it has already saved, and sends only the new sentences to DeepL or Google. The result is stored. Every visitor after that is served from your site, with no call to DeepL or Google at all.
You can change that. Translate new posts in the background as soon as you save them, so the first visitor never waits. Or run a one-time pass over the whole site from the Tools screen.
Where the settings live
Six tabs under LocalePro → Settings:
- Languages. The language you write in, the languages you offer, and the address each one uses. Languages and URLs →
- Translation. Which service translates, names that must stay as written, and a way to test before you trust it. Translation service →
- Content. When translation runs, email, and parts of the site that stay in your language. Content and exclusions →
- Visitors. The language menu, and whether a first visit follows the browser’s language. Language menu →
- Usage and limits. A monthly ceiling, and whether a staging copy may spend money. Usage and spend →
- General. Your key, and what happens to translations if you delete the plugin.
Beyond the settings screen
- The editor sidebar. For the post you’re editing, set any language to automatic, a version you write yourself, a link to a different page, or off. You can also ask AI to improve one language. See page-by-page control.
- The Translations screen. Every saved translation, searchable and editable. Export a file for a person, and import it back.
If a page doesn’t look translated
Check that the language is on, that a translation service is connected, and that the page isn’t covered by an exclusion. If you’ve hit the monthly limit, new sentences stay in your language until the month resets or you raise the limit. The Usage and spend tab says so. And make sure you’re looking at the public page, not a cached copy your host saved earlier.
