Migration

Leave Weglot without losing the translated site.

Weglot translates on its servers. LocalePro translates on yours and keeps the result. That's the whole switch.

What transfers

Your pages, products, and forms stay put. A Weglot CSV or XLIFF export comes in too, hand edits included. Anything missing from that file is translated and saved here.

What does not

Edits that stay only in Weglot's dashboard don't come across on their own. Download a file from Weglot if you can, and import it. Otherwise those lines are translated again.

Storage

After the first pass, the translations live in WordPress. If you leave LocalePro, the site keeps them. If you leave Weglot before that, those pages go with Weglot.

The actual steps

  1. Step 1

    Install LocalePro alongside Weglot

Leave Weglot running. Install LocalePro, add your key, and connect your own DeepL or Google account.

  2. Step 2

Export from Weglot and import it

Download your translations from Weglot as CSV or XLIFF, then import that file under Tools in LocalePro. Hand edits come with it. Every translation you already paid for keeps working, on your site.

  3. Step 3

    Turn on the same languages

Enable the languages you already offer. LocalePro serves each one from a folder on your existing domain, such as /es/.

  4. Step 4

Fill in anything the file didn't cover

Visit the important pages in each language, or translate the site ahead of time from Tools. New sentences are saved in WordPress, not on our servers.

  5. Step 5

Check shops, forms, and search snippets

Open the cart, checkout, a form email, and a translated page. Check that prices stayed as you wrote them, and that each language has its own address.

  6. Step 6

    Turn Weglot off

Deactivate the Weglot plugin and remove its JavaScript snippet. LocalePro already has its own copies, so the translated URLs keep working.

Side-by-side product differences live on theWeglot comparison.

Questions

Can I import my Weglot translations?+

Yes. Export CSV or XLIFF from Weglot and import it under Tools. Hand edits are included. Anything the file doesn't contain, we translate with your DeepL or Google account and save in WordPress.

What happens the moment I disable Weglot?+

Weglot-translated pages disappear, because they were never saved on your site. Disable it only after LocalePro has stored translations for the pages you care about.

Will my existing /es/ URLs keep working?+

If Weglot used subdirectory URLs, set the same prefixes in LocalePro. Then the addresses stay familiar. If Weglot used a different pattern, plan redirects before you switch.

Ready to move the translations onto your site?

A yearly price for your sites. You pay DeepL or Google for new text.
